I also wondered why the calm cool and collective guy (Andy), was the guy who didn't wear a gun, and the buffoon (Barney) was the guy that always wore a gun and was often seen drawing it or playing with it. I have to think that Hollywood was up to it's old tricks even back in the 60's, trying to make people with guns look stupid.
David Durant is in the Cantina in a showdown with a man at the bar. David is obviously scared as the man calls for another drink before he handles David. David's father Barney with a rope around his shoulder enters.
He walks to the bar ordering a beer in a stern voice. As the man finishes his drink, Barney hits him with the rope and smashes his gun hand with his beer glass. He tells the man David is his son and walks out taking David's gun. At home he tells 'Davy' it is time for him to leave home to create his own life or he is going to be killed.

As David walks to the stage, Josh rides past him pulling two prisoners on foot. He wants to rent horses from Barney for the prisoners he is taking to Nevada. While he and Barney prepare the horses, the men cut the rope holding them. They start a fire in the barn locking Josh and Barney in it and escape with two of Barney's horses.
After extinguishing the fire, Josh goes after them followed by Barney. He passes David telling him to return.
Contents.HistoryAlmost immediately after Barney and Friends first aired in 1992, the result was that it mesmerized and fascinated many viewers under the age of four, but was strongly disapproved of by most older children and young adults, who criticized it for being 'saccharine', 'sunshine-and-flowers', and 'one-dimensional'. Professor noted that'Barney is on the receiving end of more hostility than just about any other popular cultural icon I can think of.
Parents admit to a cordial dislike of the saccharine saurian, and no self-respecting second-grader will admit to liking Barney.' These children were among the first to practice anti-Barney humor, and were given an entire chapter of the 1995 book Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts: The Subversive Folklore of Childhood.Eventually, adults began to contribute to the anti-Barney humor, including some parents and celebrities. Many families now refuse to watch the show because of its supposed 'one-dimensionality' and 'lack of educational value', and several videos have plush dolls of the character being destroyed in various ways, including being, destroyed by small, being shot by many weapons using or being run over by vehicles.Sources of hostility include episodes where Barney and the other characters do potentially harmful acts such as, (with no punishment or scolding from the purple dinosaur), and catching. Other reasons cited for the hostility also include the purple dinosaur's voice (described by many parents as 'dopey'), lack of varied facial expressions other than a toothy smile, and personality (described as being 'self-centered'), as well as how the children in the series interact with the dinosaur characters. In Barney vs. The San Diego Chicken, Ted Giannoulas stated. 'Perhaps the most insightful criticism regarding Barney is that his shows do not assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions.
As one commentator puts it, the real danger from Barney is denial: the refusal to recognize the existence of unpleasant realities. For along with his steady diet of giggles and unconditional love, Barney offers our children a one-dimensional world where everyone must be happy and everything must be resolved right away.' Additionally, the show was ranked #50 on 's List of the 50 Worst TV Shows of All Time. Examples Barkley vs. Barneywas the guest host of on September 25, 1993, and performed a skit that parodied his -themed by facing off against Barney in a one-on-one matchup. Baloney and KidsThe animated series had a episode in which confront 'Baloney', an orange dinosaur meant to be a parody of Barney.
The entire episode is dedicated to lampooning the series, as well as for airing it (the introduction promotes the show as part of the 'SBS (Stupid Broadcasting Service)' while the voice-over says, ' Baloney and Kids is brought to you by this station and other stations that lack clever programming.' The Warners try various methods to get rid of Baloney (including dropping anvils on his head; after the second time Baloney says, 'Let's do that again!' ), but only escape when the show runs out of time, at which point they also take with them three extremely desperate adult members of the regular crew (including ).Music and related videoOne of the first well known anti-Barney songs was Tony Mason's ' (often miscredited to, who denied writing the song).
Although Yankovic did not write 'Barney's on Fire', he did mention Barney in the lyrics of the parody song ' ( '.I'm afraid those things'll harm me / 'Cause they sure don't act like Barney.'
