(DATED SUNDAY DECEMBER 08 2013)Hi everyone,I have a Bricked ACER W500.My story is a dual boot I tried with LinuxMint Cinnamon and win 8 (instead of Android OS).now I have a Black screen, no white screen cursor at top left anymore, Windows Blue button on, fan turns on. I spent over 8 hours combing the internet on solutions. Tried most venues, took the main, battery out, took the cmos battery out, still no BIOS screen access. Seems that acer ust some of the BIOS in the ssd harddrive nd some on the chip. The Bios chip got corrupted somehow and I posted on this google forum and 2 people said the same thing to replace and solder in a new programmed BIOS chip.its $20 off Ebayhere's the link with #152 and #153 replyingDec 12 (2 days ago)#152 sajjad.s.@gmail.com Sry to tell you.

SOLVED: How to Access the BIOS on an Acer Iconia Tab W500P or W700P November 30, 2012 November 30, 2012 If you just want to change the boot order (i.e. You want to boot from a USB DVD because you are wiping the device and want to install Windows 8, you do NOT need to go into the BIOS, just power up the unit and press the F12 key repeatedly. Hi everyone,I have a bricked ACER W500 windows based tablet. Installing a BIOS via a USB bootable DOS thumb drive using RUFUS or some. Gmail.com Tanner i have a solution for your iconia w500, i have had mine.

That you need to solder a new bios chip.thats is the only way to fix it.i know i did the same think as you-Dec 13 (47 hours ago)#153 ivanvale.@gmail.com Take the Acer to someone who can solder the bios chip and your out of trouble in maximum 30 minute. Hey buddy were you able to fix it? Did you order the bios chip from ebay or were you able to flash the bios yourself?and if possible can you make a copy of your working acer w500 bios and upload it somewhere online so that i can write it on my orginial bios chip with a bios writter?( a local repair shop knows how to write bios). I know the latest bios is available on the acer website but to rewrite the bios on the original chip i would require a complete bios copy of a working acer w500.i know its an old post but i cant seem to get a clear answer on the internet from any blog.thanksbest regards.

Iconia

I was trying to boot from my 4GB FAT usbdrive with an image of Android AMD-Brazos 3.2. I pressed windows and power toboot from USB and the windows button would light up but the screen wouldn't.After everything I thought of trying, the screen is still blank and won't evendisplay the acer logo. Can you think of anything? Acer support says it needs to be shipped to theirfacilities for repair.I have a feeling that somehow I flashed the BIOS. I have the original BIOSfiles from Acer, but I have no idea how to use them.Any Ideas? Thanks!Original issue reported on code.google.com by john.hen.@gmail.com on 28 Dec 2011 at 3:24Attachments:. It might be worth the effort just to see if you can get any display on anexternal monitor - i.e. It might be enough to let you reflash the bios or doother troubleshooting.

Also, you may want to consider cracking openthe case and disconnecting/reconnecting the internal SSD as it could be somehowinterfering with the bios startup process. I opened the case myself whenlooking at upgrade options for the internal SSD and internal memory. There'sa youtube video somewhere that shows how to open the case on a W500.

Also,I didn't try this myself, but once you open the case there may be an option totemporarily disconnect/reconnect the internal battery, which could also beinterfering with BIOS boot. (I know with laptops sometimes you have to popout the battery when you get lockup situations).Original comment by rsha.@gmail.com on 28 Dec 2011 at 3:16. You have to be very careful opening plastic cases with a metal object (like aflat head screwdriver) because you can easily scratch and notch the edges ofthe case. I used a plastic wedge tool from a kit that I got to open cell phonesand plastic on plastic usually doesn't scratch or notch. Even with thisthough, you have to go very slowly and apply light pressure to release thecatches around the edges of the case.

If you are not comfortable with thisand are willing to wait through a product return effort, than you might want togo that route if you find that the external monitor option doesn't work. One final thing to try before you send it back to ACer - to simulate a batterydisconnection without actually cracking the case and disconnecting the battery, you can try to just leave the unit powered on until the battery dies. (waittill the blue light goes out). Then plug it back in and see if the screenfires up. This is not as good as actually disconnecting the battery, butit's an easy thing to try before sending it back.Original comment by rsha.@gmail.com on 28 Dec 2011 at 4:37. John, the recovery disks didnĀ“t work even with an External DVD?' With the tablet turned off, connect an external DVD optical drive into anavailable USB port and insert the first of the recovery discs.Press the Windows key, volume-up key and power button simultaneously.Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.' Even with the External DVD it dosent work (Im asking it because perhaps youtried with USB PenDrive), I think the only way is to flash a new bios.In the post intended for ace one, they ask you to rename the bios.

I thinkthe problem is in this step. You probably need to rename to some diferent Ithink.:-/I really woud like to help.

I will keep searching.Original comment by mcaud.@gmail.com on 4 Jan 2012 at 6:13. Since this dilemma then I've opened my equipment and nothing in already took atechnician and nothing more he told me it was really bios problem I've tried todo all the commands and nothing tooI think we should continue with the topic because if someone else has problems we could try to solve it already and the third case that I see is that so far no solution has sent an email to acer to see if they have solutionI'll try to keep trying until maybe a light appearOriginal comment by flamario.@gmail.com on 7 Jan 2012 at 11:53. Count me in as the next victim of this no display showing up on the w500. Asusual, the windows light is on as is the power button on the side but nodisplay.

The usb optical powers on but none of the combination of buttonpresses I've tried so far works. Also, tried the usb flash drive method.I reinstalled w7 from the provided discs with no issues, then, and I think thisis were I done goofed was tried rebooting the device while it was updating. Iwas trying to install win8 and prematurely rebooted. Will this cause anyproblems? I wasn't trying to flash the bios at all, just installing win 8.Anyone with any thoughts on this?Original comment by taru.@gmail.com on 17 Oct 2012 at 6:11. Well from what I wrote, it was more or less as detailed as I could from my ownissue. I am not really sure if it is a 100% cure to any problem or not, atleast it helped me.

Acer Iconia W500p Driver

Sry can't do a video or more or less I don't want to.Recreating the same issue again with the risk to totally break the tablet. Too scared of that. If I 'missed' something in my steps above then itmeans that I simply didn't remember what I did because I tried tons of stuff.Try everything you can from that support guide from the internet. Maybe somesolutions will work there.Original comment by Nerue.@gmail.com on 17 Oct 2012 at 10:25.

Iconia Tab W500.JPG( Tab W500.JPG). Tanner i have a solution for your iconia w500, i have had mine since it was newand have ran into this problem myself. What happens is when you format/erasethe partitions on the ssd(solid state hard drive) the bios is deleted becauseit is partially stored on the ssd(in the bmr) and not a normal bios rom chip. The solution is hard to find online so i will lay it out in as much detail as ican.
