Is Nexus Mods Safe
Do NOT download from a mod distributor. Only download mods from an author's forum thread or website. A good way to stay safe is to use this: Seriously, it's not cool If you download their browser extension, it will notify you when you come to an u. Skyrim nexus is the main site for Skyrim mods. Any other site I would be cautious of. To see if the mods are truely safe I would read reviews of the mods using different websites to get an over all unbiased opinion.
I am just about downloading Fallout 4 GOTY, and found out there are some mods available for it on a site called. But, who makes the mods on this page and how do I know if they are safe or not? I know I can scan them with my antivirusprogram, but just wanted to know if somebody could tell me about the page. If for instance these mods are made by private persons, i am not much for downloading them, but if it is part of a crew of professionals working for nexusmods, I might be interested. I just don´t want to risk my computer getting trojans and stuff and don´t want some OP-mods/weapons that way.
The best thing to do is read the posts and look at the age of the mod if it is kept up to date and people have posted recently that it works it should be safe to try.if you use something like Nexus Mod Manager to install a mod there should be no issues in trying a mod then removeing it if it is not something that works for you.Just be certain to make and keep a save before installing one to try as many mods will cause issues with games if they are just pulled mid game without going through some uninstal selection from the mod itself to safely remove menu items etc. Originally posted by:Get an adblocker before you get on nexusmods.
Your biggest risk is from their ads and follow showler's advice too. I have never had a problem from the ads. I had more of a problem when i had my free adblocker activated.
Nexus is the place most gamers go to get mods. If the mods are downloaded through nexus mod manager, they are 100% safe. Nexus isn't going to allow some virus to load through their manager. I have downloaded hundreds of mods manually with no negative result.I trust Nexus too, but mods are not 100% safe, nor is Nexus 100% infallible. Due to the fact it's such a high volume site, it would be a popular and sensible place to try and spread malware.
While the mods themselves do not contain malware, you should read every detail about mods made by players before installing. Some mods do not let you uninstall mid-game without messing your save up and many mods conflict with one another (due to editing the same thing).If you are smart, cautious, and paitent then no harm will come to your game from installing mods made by players (I have roughly 400 Mods installed and combined with one another to stay under the 255 Mod Limit).Also keep in mind many mods rely on Fallout 4 Script Extender. While this is great, the Script Extender stops working each time Bethesda updates their game. Since Steam is set up to auto-install updates without your knowing this can be problematic. Change your steam settings so that it does not auto-install mods for you to avoid being locked out of your game when the game updates if you use Fallout 4 Script Extender.
